Everyday Expression

Small Talk 1:

Mary: Excuse me, Tina, but I don't know what this file is for.

Tina: Let me see. Seems like a data analysis of the market, but I'm not sure who made it.

Mary: Jim told me it was from the former manager.

Tina: What is he doing here?

Mary: I've no idea. So this staff meeting is supposed to be on this weekend?

Tina: I guess.

Small Talk 2:

A: Excuse me, do you happen to know how they started quarrelling?

B: Sorry but I was not present at that very hour. And you?

A: For all I know, it was about the color of a bowl.

B: Well, who can believe this?

Small Talk 3:

A: Got any idea why the bus is late?

B: The accident at the intersection, so they were saying.

A: But I think something weird is going on.

B: Nothing much, hopefully.

Small Talk 4:

A: I'd like to know, please, when the plan takes off.

B: With this kind of storm, I'm sorry to tell you that you'll have to wait.

A: Will it be all right by tomorrow afternoon?

B: Sorry, sir, but I have no idea.

Small Talk 5:

A: Happen to know his name?

B: Nope. But I know he's a new comer in the Marketing Dept.

A: But I thought the department was going to size down!

B: Well, you can never tell.
