童话故事第 17 课: Honest Hans 诚 实 的 汉 斯-1

Once upon a time there lived a King, but where he reigned and what was his name I don't know. 从 前 有 一 个 国 王， 我 不 知 道 他 统 治 的 地 方 在 哪 里， 也 不 知 道 他 叫 什 么 名 字。

He had no sons, but an only daughter, who was always ill, and no doctor knew how to cure her. 国 王 没 有 儿 子， 只 有 一 个 独 生 女 儿， 她 老 生 病， 哪 个 医 生 也 不 知 道 怎 样 才 能 把 她 治 好。

Someone foretold that if the King's daughter ate a certain sort of apple she would get well. 有 人 预 言， 只 要 国 王 的 女 儿 吃 了 某 种 苹 果， 身 体 就 会 好 起 来。

So the King issued a proclamation to the effect that anyone who would bring an apple to the Princess that would restore her health, should marry her. 于 是 国 王 发 布 公 告， 大 意 是： 无 论 什 么 人 送 一 只 能 使 公 主 恢 复 健 康 的 苹 果 来， 就 可 以 和 公 主 结 婚。

A peasant who had three sons said to the eldest, "Go into the orchard, pick a basket full of choicest apples, and take them to the castle. 有 一 个 农 夫， 他 有 三 个 儿 子。 他 对 大 儿 子 说： “到 果 园 里 去， 挑 一 篮 最 好 的 苹 果 送 到 城 堡 去。

Perhaps they will make the Princess well again. Then you can marry her and become King."说 不 定 这 些 苹 果 会 治 好 公 主 的 病， 然 后 你 就 可 以 和 她 结 婚， 继 承 王 位。

So the son gathered the apples and went to the castle. 这 个 儿 子 采 了 苹 果， 到 城 堡 去。

On the way he met an old man, who inquired what he had in his basket. Ulrich replied, "Frogs." The man said, "So be it," and went on.他 在 路 上 遇 见 一 个 老 头 儿。 老 头 儿 问 他 盖 着 的 蓝 子 里 面 装 的 是 什 么。 乌 里 奇 答 道： “青 蛙。” 老 头 儿 说： “是 青 蛙。” 说 完 就 走 了。

When Ulrich came to the castle he asked the porter to let him through the gates, as he had brought a hamper of apples which he thought would cure the Princess. 乌 里 奇 来 到 城 堡， 要 求 守 门 人 放 他 进 去， 因 为 他 带 来 一 篮 子 苹 果， 他 认 为 这 些 苹 果 可 以 治 好 公 主 的 病。

The King, when he heard this, was delighted, and summoned Ulrich to his presence. 国 王 听 到 这 个 消 息， 很 高 兴。 召 见 乌 里 奇。
