童话故事第 25 课: Mother Holly 荷 莉 妈 妈-4

Soon she came to the apple-tree, which cried as before, "Shake me, shake me; we apples are all too ripe." 不 久 她 来 到 苹 果 树 前， 苹 果 树 象 上 次 一 样 叫 道：“摇 摇 我 吧。 摇 摇 我 吧， 我 们 这 些 苹 果 都 熟 透 了。”

She answered, "I dare say; but an apple might fall on my head," and went on.她 回 答 道 ： “ 我 看 是 这 样 的, 可 苹 果 会 掉 在 我 头 上。”说 完 她 走 了。

When she came to Mother Holle's little house she was not afraid, because she had been warned that the Dame had big teeth.
她 来 到 荷 莉 妈 妈 的 小 屋 时， 一 点 儿 也 不 害 怕， 她 事 先 已 经 知 道 这 位 老 妇 人 的 牙 齿 很 大。

The first day the ugly girl tried hard to be industrious and to obey the wishes of Mother Holle, because she thought of all the gold that was to be her reward; 第 一 天， 丑 姑 娘 心 里 想 着 有 金 子 作 报 酬， 所 以 努 力 辛 勤 地 劳 动， 照 荷 莉 妈 妈 的 意 思 做。

on the second day, however, she began to be idle; on the third day she was worse, as she almost refused to get up early in the morning, and she forgot to make Mother Holle's bed properly and to shake the mattress till the down flew about. 可 是 第 二 天 她 就 发 懒 ； 第 三 天 更 糟， 早 上 不 肯 早 起 了， 忘 了 整 理 荷 莉 妈 妈 的 床 铺 ， 又 忘 了 摇 晃 床 垫， 让 绒 毛 飞 起 来 。

Mother Holle by that time was tired of her, and gave her notice. 这 时， 荷 莉 妈 妈 对 她 很 厌 烦，叫 她 别 干 了。

The lazy girl was quite content, and thought, "Now it's time for the gold rain!"懒 姑 娘 很 开 心， 她 想： “该 下 金 雨 了。”

Mother Holle led her to the gateway, but as she stood under it, instead of gold, a great kettle of pitch was poured over her. 荷 莉 妈 妈 带 她 走 到 门 口。 当 她 站 在 门 底 下 时， 倒 在 她 身 上 的 不 是 金 子 ， 而 是 一 大 锅 沥 青 。

"That is in reward for your services." said Mother Holle, and shut the gate. “这 是 你 服 务 的 报 酬 。” 荷 莉 妈 妈 说 完， 关 上 了 门。

So the lazy girl went home covered with pitch. The pitch wouldn't wash off, and it stuck to her till the end of her days. 懒 姑 娘 浑 身 带 着 沥 青 回 到 家 里 ， 沥 青 洗 不 掉， 一 直 到 死 都 沾 在 她 的 身 上 。
