She drew him up, but when her reached the edge of the well she held out her hand to seize the blue light.她 拉 他 上 来 ， 快 到 井 口 时 ， 老 太 婆 就 伸 手 去 抓 蓝 灯。

But he, seeing her evil design, said, "No, I shall not give you the light till I am standing with both feet on the ground." 士 兵 发 现 她 不 怀 好 意， 就 说： “不， 我 两 只 脚 不 站 到 地 面 上 去， 就 不 给 你 灯。”

Then the witch lost her temper, let him drop into the well again, and went away. 女 巫 发 火 了，一 松 手 让 他 掉 到 井 底， 自 己 就 走 了。

The poor soldier fell, without hurting himself, to the bottom. 可 怜 的 士 兵 掉 到 井 底 ， 没 有 受 伤 。

The blue light still burned, but what help was that? He saw death staring him in the face. For a while he sat lost in sad reflection. 蓝 灯 还 亮 着 。 那 又 有 什 么 用 ？ 他 发 现 自 己 面 临 着 死 亡 的 威 胁 。 他 坐 了 一 会 儿 ， 难 过 地 沉 思 起 来 。

Then he chanced to put his hand in his pocket and find his pipe, which was half-filled with tobacco. 后 来 ， 他 偶 尔 把 手 伸 进 口 袋 ， 摸 到 烟 斗 ， 里 面 装 着 半 斗 烟 叶 。

"This shall be my last enjoyment." he said; drew it out, lit it with the blue light, and began to smoke. 他 说 ：“ 这 是 我 最 后 的 享 受 了。”就 把 它 取 出 来，用 蓝 灯 的 火 点 着，抽 起 来。

As the smoke rose and floated on the air, a little black man suddenly appeared and said:"Sir, what are your orders?"烟 往 上 升，在 空 中 飘 浮 着 ， 这 时， 一 个 小 人 突 然 出 现 ， 他 说 ： “ 先 生， 你 有 什 么 吩 咐？”

"I must do all." said the little man, "that you desire." "Very well," said the soldier, "help me out of the well."“你 要 怎 么 样，我 都 照 办 。” 那 个 小 人 儿 说 。 “很 好 ， 你 帮 我 走 出 这 口 井 吧 。” 士 兵 说。
