童话故事第 52 课: Hansel and Gretel汉 塞 尔 和 格 雷 特 尔-7

Then Gretel set herself free once more, and she and Hansel set out for home.
格 雷 特 尔 又 使 自 己 恢 复 原 状， 获 得 自 由。 她 和 汉 塞 尔 动 身 回 家 去 。

After traveling a long way, Gretel grew tried, so they laid themselves down to sleep in a hollow tree that grew in a meadow near the wood. 走 了 很 长 的 一 段 路， 格 雷 特 尔 累 了， 他 们 就 在 森 林 附 近 草 地 上 一 个 空 的 树 干 里 头 躺 下 睡 了 。

As they slept the witch came by; and, seeing her wand, was glad to lay hold of it. At once she turned poor Hansel into a fawn.他 们 睡 觉 时 ， 女 巫 从 他 们 身 边 走 过， 看 到 她 的 魔 棍，很 高 兴，一 把 抓 到 手 里 ， 立 刻 把 可 怜 的 汉 塞 尔 变 为 一 只 小 鹿。

When Gretel woke and found what had happened she wept bitterly over the poor creature. 格 雷 特 尔 醒 来 发 现 出 了 事 ， 就 对 着 可 怜 的 动 物 痛 哭 起 来。

The tears rolled from his eyes, as he laid himself beside her. 汉 塞 尔 躺 在 她 的 身 旁， 泪 水 从 他 的 眼 睛 里 头 涌 出 来。

She took off her long golden necklace and put it round his neck, then she plucked some rushes and plaited them into a string, and led the poor fawn by her side wherever she went. 她 取 出 自 己 长 长 的 金 项 链 ， 戴 在 小 鹿 的 脖 子 上。 然 后 她 采 了 一 些 灯 心 草， 编 成 绳 子。 她 不 论 走 到 哪 儿， 都 把 可 怜 的 小 鹿 带 在 身 边。

At last one day they came to a little cottage; and Gretel, seeing that it was quite empty, said, "We can live here." 有 一 天 ， 他 们 终 于 来 到 一 座 小 茅 屋 前。 格 雷 特 尔 看 到 它 是 空 着 的， 就 说： “我 们 可 以 住 在 这 儿。”

After living for years in the wood by themselves until Gretel was a grown maiden, it chanced that the King came one day to hunt there. 他 们 在 森 林 里 住 了 好 几 年 ， 格 雷 特 尔 长 成 一 位 少 女 了。 有 一 天 ， 国 王 恰 巧 到 那 一 带 打 猎 。

When the fawn heard the echoing of the horns, the baying of the dogs, and the shouts of the huntsmen, he wished very much to see what was going on. 小 鹿 听 到 号 角 的 回 声、猎 犬 的 叫 声 和 猎 人 的 喊 声，很 想 出 去 看 看 出 了 些 什 么 事。

He begged so long that at last she let him go. 他 恳 求 了 很 长 时 间 ， 格 雷 特 尔 终 于 让 他 出 去 了。
