The tailor put the belt round his loins with the intention of going out into the world, because the workshop had become too small for his great bravery. 裁缝觉得自己非常勇敢，这个作坊太小了，打算到世上去闯一闯；他把那条带子系在腰间，

Before starting, he looked round to see if there was anything worth taking with him, and was nothing except and old cheese, which he stuck in his pocket.准备出发时，又朝四周看看，还有什么值得带走的东西；他只看到有一块陈干酪可带，就把它装在口袋里。

In front of the door he noticed a bird, this went into his pocket too, to keep the cheese company.他在门前看到一只鸟儿陷在矮树丛里飞不掉，就把鸟儿也装在口袋里，跟干酪作伴儿。

Now he stepped out jauntily, and being so light and small he felt no fatigue. 他逍遥自在地大踏步走了出去。他个子小，身体轻，所以不觉得累。

The road led up a mountain, and when he had reached the highest peak he found sitting there a powerful giant, who was calmly looking round him. 这条路通向一座山，他走到山顶时，发现一个身强力壮的巨人坐在那儿，静静地打量着他。

The tailor went up to him and said pluckily:"Good-day, comrade; are you sitting there surveying the great world further on? I am on my way there. Do you feel inclined to come with me?" 小裁缝走上前去大胆地说： “你好啊，朋友。你坐在那儿眺望远处的广大世界吗？我正要到那儿去，你想跟我一块儿走吗？”

The giant looked with scorn at the tailor. "You miserable ragamuffin. Puny wretch!" he exclaimed. 巨人轻蔑地看着小裁缝大叫道： “你这个穿得破破烂烂的倒霉的小东西，没力气的小可怜儿！”

"Oh indeed, you think so, do you? But look here!" answered the little tailor. “ 噢，你真以为这样，是吗？看看这儿！小裁缝回答道。
