Mrs. Wheeler : Any mail for me today, Mr. Sharpe? 今天有我的信件吗，夏普先生?

Doorman : No, but there is a telegram for your husband. 没有，不过有一封你先生的电报。

Mrs. Wheeler : A telegram? 一封电报?

Doorman : Yes, from England....Here it is. 是，英国寄来的。……在这儿。

Mrs. Wheeler : Thank you, Mr. Sharpe. (Back at her house.) Charles? Charles? 谢谢你，夏普先生。(回到她家。)查理士?查理士?

Mr. Wheeler : I'm here in the study. 我在书房。

Mrs. Wheeler : Here is a telegram for you. It's from England. 这儿有封你的电报。英国寄来的。

Mr. Wheeler : England? I don't know anybody in England. 英国?我不认识英国的朋友。

Mrs. Wheeler : Why don't you open it? 你为什么不打开来看看呢?　　

Mr. Wheeler : Oh, yes. 哦，好。

Mrs. Wheeler : What does it say? Who sent it? 上面说些什么? 是谁寄的?

Mr. Wheeler : It says, "Dear Charles, Meet me at the old place at 3:00 p.m. on July 24. Love,...". 上面说亲爱的查理士，七月二十四日下午三点，老方见。爱，……。

Mrs. Wheeler : Who sent it? Why didn't you read out the name? 谁寄来的? 你为什么不把名字大声念出来?

Mr. Wheeler : It's just a friend. 只是个朋友。

Mrs. Wheeler : Who?....Give it to me. Diane? Who is this Diane? 谁?……给我。黛安? 这个黛安是谁?

Mr. Wheeler : She is an old friend. I met her on a plane ten years ago when I was traveling. We kept in touch for quite a while till I met you. It never occurred to me that she would write to me after ten years. There's nothing between us, honestly. We're just friends. 她是个老朋友。我是十年前旅行时在飞机上遇见她的。我们保持联络了一段不算短的时间，一直到我认识你。我从未料到她在十年后又写信给我。我们之间没有什么。纯粹是朋友。

Mrs. Wheeler : I believe you. Why don't you bring her here? We can have dinner together. By the way, where is this "old place"? 我相信你。你为何不把她带回家来?我们可以一起吃晚饭。对了，信上这个『老地方』是在那里?
